What a weekend! We lost power a little after midnight on Friday. I standed up most of the night listening to the howling wind outside. We had some pretty good gusts that rattled the house but we survived the night pretty much in tact.
We spend most of Saturday checking on some of our church folks and the church building. A couple of windows blew out on the front of the church between the foyer and the old fellowship hall. We had moisture in the sanctuary and a few other parts of the first floor but Wallace was able to get the AC back on and the boys and I toweled up most of the moisture. Overall, God was very gracious to us.
Since we had no power at the house we decided to go up to the church and camp out. We watched the USC/Ohio State game on the big screen in the FMC, played ping pong and had a serious game of Phase Ten. We watched TV and realized the extend of the flooding in Lake Charles. We ended the day with prayer for our city and many of our church family whose homes were being flooded.
Sunday morning we got set up for AM Worship in the FMC. It was good to see everybody and hear their hurricane stories. Aaron did a great job leading us in worship. I really liked the song he shared before my message - God is a strong tower - very appropriate and uplifting.
This afternoon Jay Carter, our new deacon chairman, coordinated teams of deacons and other FBCLCer who went out and helped people clean up flood damage. We helped people rip out carpet and dry out. It was FBCLC at its best. What a great group of people. If you know of anyone who needs some help cleaning up, let us know by calling 433-1443 or emailing us at
We plan to have a regular schedule this week. The FMC will be opened at 6:30 until the curfew is lifted. The Church Office will be opened Monday morning at 8:00. Everything else will take place as scheduled. GROW will be held Tuesday. Wednesday will be regular schedule. Thursday is Senior Adult Luncheon with Jim Beam.
